Multicultural awareness
In today's increasingly diverse society, cultural awareness is essential. It encompasses respecting differences, understanding cultural nuances, and adapting to meet the needs of cultural groups. In New Zealand, the growing diversity due to immigration and other factors makes cultural awareness more crucial than ever. By 2043, it is projected that more than one in four people in Aotearoa New Zealand will be migrants from various ethnic backgrounds. This underscores the importance of cultural awareness not only for our staff working with patients but also in supporting the diverse workforce across New Zealand.
We will be presenting Worldwide Mosaic, our website designed to address the evolving cultural landscape within the New Zealand population. Our presentation covers aspects of cultural awareness, emphasizing its role in promoting diversity, fostering inclusivity, and enhancing societal harmony.
In addition to my clinical role, I am the founder of Worldwide Mosaic, an initiative aimed at fostering inclusivity and cultural understanding.
I am passionate about making a positive impact and am committed to being part of a team that strives to improve outcomes for ethnic communities.
I hail from the beautiful Islands of the Cook Islands and was born and raised in the Deep South of Dunedin. As a Pasifika and a dedicated healthcare professional, I am deeply committed to advocate for and improve the health outcomes of Pasifika and minority groups in New Zealand.
Over the past three years, I have worked tirelessly to bridge the gap in health disparities. My efforts include active involvement in numerous community education programs and health education initiatives. My work focuses on ensuring that all individuals, regardless of their background, have access to quality healthcare services.
I am a neonatal nurse with a focus on improving health outcomes for refugee and Muslim communities in New Zealand.
Based in Dunedin, I have spent the past twenty years working to bridge health disparities through community education programs. Alongside my professional role, I volunteer with the Red Cross and the Otago Muslim Association, supporting vulnerable populations in their healthcare journeys.
My work is about ensuring that everyone—no matter their background—has access to quality healthcare. Working with refugees is incredibly rewarding. Many organisations need volunteers to help with various tasks, from language tutoring to job training and mentorship. I am passionate about raising awareness about refugee issues and advocating for policies that support refugees and can make a big difference.
