Advanced Laparoscopic Workshop

This practical Advanced Laparoscopic Workshop specifically targets Obstetrics and Gynaecology consultants and registrars.

Over the day (8.30am – 3.30pm), the workshop will provide a mixture of hands-on experience, demonstration, discussion and lectures.
There will be practical stations to explore specific issues, supported by some of our ASM exhibitors.

The faculty will be led by Dr Tavaziva Mudzamiri (Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Waikato Hospital), he will be joined RANZCOG Fellows Dr Kieran Dempster-Rivett, Dr VP Singh, Dr Alice Pan, Dr Michael Wynn-Williams and Dr Lakshmi Ravikanti.

There are 20 places available to maintain a low ratio of supervision.

The course aims to:

  • provide evidence-based approach to simple and complex laparoscopic hysterectomy
  • address the challenges of complex hysterectomy with particular focus on relevant anatomy in complex cases
  • demonstrate a variety of techniques required to perform complex hysterectomy
  • equip participants with skill, tips and tricks to approach both simple and complex hysterectomy

This session involves 4 breakouts that the participants move between.  Each involves a video-based tutorial in small group of 3-4 participants. The facilitator will prepare a video-based tutorial on the topic and outline their approach to complex hysterectomy situations. This will be a facilitated tutorial to engage the participants to discuss their approach and also explain safe techniques in dealing with unexpected complex situations.

The afternoon session will focus on hands on stations and live surgery. There are two hands on sessions focussing on '3D laparoscopic suturing practice' and 'in bag morcellation'. There will be two stations for each with faculty acting as facilitators. There will also be a live surgery to view with one of our faculty as a moderator to guide the conversation with the operating team.
